Young Women’s Christian Association (fifth) opens.
January 1, 1929
It is located at 140 Clarendon Street. Subsequently named for Melnea Cass, the building contains a gymnasium, the first swimming pool for women in Boston, and classrooms on the lower floors and efficiency apartments and a private club residence for women on the upper floors. The YWCA renovates the building to include a theater, offices for itself and non-profit groups, residential use, and a hotel in 2005.*
